On June 12, 1971, the late Lloyd Clysdale, local Auctioneer, Newtonville, was called to conduct the first auction for my father, Hugh Stapleton at the local Grist Mill. After a span of 30 years in the milling business Hugh Stapleton started a second hand furniture shop which then became the Grist Mill Auction Centre.

What started as a one time event, quickly went from a short time hobby into a full time, full service consignment/estate auction operation, which also extended to an active on site business. The family owned business is now in its fourth generation. It started in the 1940,s as, you guessed it, a grist mill operated by the late Hugh Stapleton. In 1971 it was reborn,

becoming a part time auction centre.

From the modest beginnings it has blossomed into a full-time, full service auction house, which includes appraisal services and transportation.

Grist Mill Auctions are celebrating 33 years, June 2004..
